Mi A1: Android Fastboot ROM Download and Unlocking / Flashing Tutorial

Dear MIUIers, 

Are you still excited about the newly released Mi A1 on 5th September, 2017? Android One runs pure interface and with Google Play Protect and monthly security updates, Mi A1 is completely secure. Mi A1 will be upgraded to Oreo by the end of the year and one of the first to get P.

Here comes the detailed guide for unlocking and flashing of Mi 1. Please do read carefully before flashing your phone.

Note: 
After you unlock the device, it will become less secure. Your personal data might be leaked or lost.
Please think twice before flashing your phone and do it at your own risk.


Unlocking Method
Some locked Mi Devices need to be unlocked before flashing. Choose one method below to unlock your phone before flashing.

Method 1Step 1
Download the Mi Unlock app  miflash_unlock-en-2.3.803.10.zip (50.04 MB, Downloads: 18859) 

Step 2
If your device is locked, please click here to unlock it first.


Step 3
Open the Mi Unlock app, then connect your phone to PC/Laptop 
via a USB Type-C cable after entering fastboot mode.

Step 4
After the phone being identified by the unlocking tool, p
roceed the unlocking process.

Method 2
Apart from the above method, Mi A1 can be unlocked through command line.
Please connect your phone with PC/Laptop via a USB Type-C cable after entering fastboot mode,then type this at a command prompt: fastboot oem unlock. Your phone will be unlocked.


Flashing Guide for Fastboot Update
Note: A Windows PC/laptop will be needed for the following steps. Make sure that your device is fully charged or has enough power for this process. All user data will be purged in this process. Please back up your data and think twice before proceeding.

Step 1
Download the Mi Flash Tool. 
 MiFlash2017-7-20-0.zip (52.46 MB, Downloads: 24514) 


Step 2
Download the latest ROM package file for your device.

Step 3
Turn off the device. Press the Volume– key and the Power button at the same time to enter Fastboot mode. Then connect the device to the Windows PC/laptop via a USB Type-C cable.


Step 4
Decompress the downloaded ROM file and open the file folder for the decompressed ROM pack, then copy its path on the computer.

Step 5
Decompress the Mi Flash Tool downloaded in Step 1, and double click on it to install ( if there is security warning, select 'Run'). After installation is completed, open MiFlash.exe and paste into the address bar the ROM file folder path copied in the last step.

Click on the first button (circled out in yellow) to Refresh, and MiFlash should automatically recognize the device. Then click the second button (circled out in red) to flash the ROM file to the device.

Note :

Clean all: All data and user configuration will be cleaned, and the lock state of the device is 'Unlocked' after flashing.

Save user data: All data and user configuration will be saved, and the lock state of the device varies with the device model after flashing.

Step 6
Wait until the progress bar inside MiFlash turns fully green, which means the ROM has been successfully installed. Then your device should automatically boot to the new version. Please wait patiently until the flashing process fully completed.
